Today we are a less safe country than yesterday. Today, Britain has betrayed its own history, values and beliefs thanks to nine votes provided by a Northern Irish party, the DUP, no stranger to terrorist links. Today, the right to undermine even the basic principles behind our Magna Carta have been claimed by a childish Prime Minister performing a public ‘virility.
My fieldwork suggests that the level of frustration among Muslims in the UK with this government has reached a concerning level. The issue is not only unpopular decisions, such as terrorist legislations and operations which have achieved very little but have had a relevant impact on the lives of many Muslims of this country. It is also the fact that the New Labour government preaches about British values and then undermines the root of them, as in the case of the 42-day detention bill. How many of us can remember the ridiculous project of the Declaration of British Values? Does not the proposed 42-day detention legislation contradict them from the beginning?

I have posted a refection on this topics on my blog here

I took a day-long break from A-level revision for this - and yet I learned more useful facts and opinions during this than I would have done in a weeks' worth of Government and Politics revision.

Pretty entertaining, pretty interesting, and yes, pretty geeky. A great combination :D

Well, you'd expect buses to be half empty in a "normal" city - one where the traffic offering basically flows in a tidal pattern - in to the centre in the early morning, out in the late afternoon, in to entertainment areas in the early evening, out again in the late evening. So half the time they're running against the traffic offering.

Most routes in central London are in effect two such routes bolted together end-to-end - bus stands are not a good use of central London road space, after all. And for the same reason routes not infrequently run on past where the customers want to go to a quiet spot where they can easily turn: there have always been far more buses terminating at the "Green Man" on Putney Heath, for example, than the traffic offering there warrants, becuause Putney town centre is so crowded.

Whether TfL invest enough in traffic censuses to keep their routes "up to date" I've no idea, and of course the provision or withdrawal of a through route will also affect the passenger traffic offering.

The fare structure is also worth considering. London operates a flat fare for the first three journeys a day (90p), a slight discount on the fourth journey (80p) and free travel for subsequent journeys. How price-sensitive it is, I don't know.

Too right! The few times I've been into London I avoid the rush hour it is particularly dehumanising.
Expanding population = lack of transport! Nightmare.

People treat Obama like the Messiah. So many people are voting for him because he "makes them feel good." You want hope--spend time with your friends, pray, pet a puppy, read a self-help book. Don't look for Mommy Gov't to pat your head and tell you that everything will be okay.

As for the Iraq issues, I'm so sick of hearing him go on and on about how he was against the war from day 1. He wasn't even in the senate when we went to war! And he voted along with Hillary and the GOP several times to pour money into the war. And sure, he may get us out of Iraq, but then he'll just send the troops over to Darfur, Pakistan, and Iran.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm giving money to Hillary's campaign. She may be a socialist, but at least her husband was a moderate. People are so swayed by Obama's beautiful rhetoric that they fail to see through his scary collectivist agenda. I wish I lived I lived in Pennsylvania so I could cast a vote for Hillary. Sorry for the rant! :)
